  • Whitmore food drive

    Sigma Rho chapter is partnering with Nursing Student Government and UM Student Nurses association for our holiday food drive. All donations will benefit Whitmore Lake Area Human Services Food Pantry, serving needy residents in the Whitmore Lake area. We are focusing on kitchen staples (flour, sugar, baking supplies, etc.), cleaning & personal care supplies, and non-perishable food--items most needed at this time. Collection ends November 21, 2025

  • Seeking new mentors for our Mentor on Demand program

    Calling all Sigma Rho Chapter members! Are you interested in serving as a Mentor on Demand to nursing students and nurse leaders? This low-commitment service opportunity allows nurses in practice or leadership positions, educators, researchers, and more to provide short-term mentorship opportunities, such as advice on career paths, resumes, cover letters, goal statements for graduate school, and job shadowing! Joining this program is voluntary for the 2025-2026 academic year. Mentors may also offer services virtually. Nurses with any level of experience, from early career to retirement, are welcome.   • Sigma Rho presents: Innovative Behavioral Approaches to Pain Management

    Sigma Rho Chapter is excited to host a Pain CE session featuring Dr. Afton Hassett on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, from 5:00-6:00 PM. The event will be held at 426 N Ingalls St, Rooms 1240 & 1250. Zoom option will also be available

    This event covers topics such as pain mechanisms, behavioral strategies, and pain self-management. 

    Since there is no fee to attend, we kindly ask that each attendee bring or send a donation item for our local community partner, the Hope Clinic. The Hope Clinic is a community health center in Washtenaw County that provides primary care, mental health services, and food assistance to those in need, and is a place many UofM nursing students volunteer. Examples of needed items are listed on the event flyer below!

    Dear Rho Chapter Colleagues, It’s time to submit nominations for the annual Rho Chapter Nursing Excellence Awards recognizing outstanding nurses in the areas of Nursing Education, Nursing Practice, Leadership, Research, and more. We are also seeking student candidates for Student Leadership and Mentorship awards. Please consider nominating a deserving colleague or student. Nominees (except for students) must be Rho members.     Application deadlines are coming soon for two Rho grants. Visit nursing.umich.edu/rho-chapter and click on “Chapter Grants” for more information and application instructions. Research and Evidence Based Practice Grant (deadline January 31) supports expenses for scholarly projects focused on research and EBP (available for any current Rho member) Krapohl Women’s Reproductive Health Grant (deadline February 1) supports students’ scholarly projects including recruitment of project participants (e.g., offering gift cards), purchasing access to data, software, study materials, conference attendance, and/or to disseminate results of projects on women’s reproductive health.(available for current students)

  • XPLORING THE ROY ADAPTATION MODEL (RAM) FOR DNP & PHD GRADUATE NURSING STUDENTS

    Virtual Workshop Date/Time: Friday, January 24, 1-4PM ET (12-3 PM CT, 10-1PM PT)
    This upcoming workshop, featuring Dr. Ellen Buckner, an expert in the Roy Adaptation Model, is designed for graduate nursing students who want to delve deep into the intricacies of the RAM. The RAM offers a robust framework for healthcare professionals, especially nurses, to understand how individuals adapt to the multitude of challenges and changes they face in their lives. Topics include:
    - The significance of middle-range theories (MRTs) and how to develop them for nursing practice.
    - Roy Adaptation Model: Key definitions, stimuli, processes, and adaptive modes.
    - Assumptions of the RAM – scientific, philosophic, and cultural.
    - The potential for a faith-based orientation in using the RAM.
    - Developing the critical appraisal of evidence using RAM.
    -Other topics provided by participating Sigma chapters

The annual IPN conference will address these issues and related topics. Sessions will focus on defeating burnout and thriving. We will also focus on navigating the challenges of emerging technologies such as AI as well as organizational and career transitions.
